As we announced in the recent Spring 2013 UUJME newsletter, the winner of this year's UUJME Sermon Contest is Galina L. de Roeck from the Mountain Vista UU Church of Tuscon, AZ, chosen for her sermon entitled "The Promised Land". She will be awarded a $500 check at our awards luncheon (see below) for her fabulous winning sermon!
We are also pleased to announce that Heather Concannon, intern minister at Winchester Unitarian Society of Winchester, MA, has been awarded the honorable mention distinction for her sermon titled "Living Somewhere", and will be awarded a $100 check for her impressive sermon. Note that this award is not officially mandated, but is up to the judges' discretion on a year-by-year basis. This year the judges decided that Heather's sermon was deserving of such a distinction!
Both sermons, which will be posted on the UUJME website after the General Assembly, address the theme of this year's contest, "Confronting Religious and Cultural Entitlement in Israel-Palestine". Congratulations to Galina and Heather!
Galina will be presenting her winning sermon at the UUJME Sermon Contest Award Luncheon on Friday, June 21st during the UUA General Assembly in Louisville, KY. The luncheon will be held in Marriott Ballroom 1 & 2 from 12:00 to 1:45 pm.
