UUJME Reflection & Learning Project

UUJME launched a nationwide Reflection & Learning Project at GA 2014 to create and provide group study guides on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to help UUs learn about and discuss the issue from a uniquely UU perspective.

Available here is the overview document explaining the Reflection and Learning Project, and summarizing the included study guides. We encourage multi-congregational study groups and inviting people of other faiths to learn in community together.

In the study guide packet, in addition to our online UU study guide titled The 7 UU Principles and Palestine-Israel, we include two additional study guides with free DVDs produced by Presbyterians: Steadfast Hope and Zionism Unsettled.

The 7 UU Principles and Palestine-Israel guide is designed to be used electronically, and can be downloaded at no cost from the links to the right of this section and from the Home page of the website. It can be then emailed to group participants ahead of each planned session, and pages with discussion questions and recommended video links can be accessed and displayed during sessions with an Internet-connected computer and a projector or web-enabled television. If someone in your group is fairly tech savvy, they can be enlisted to conduct the projection tasks of the study sessions, enabling you to manage the group with only one printed copy. Or, to promote multi generational learning, you can enlist the support of young adults and youth in your congregation or other community who will likely be able to shepherd the technology process.

Study group leaders can choose to make use of any of the three study guides and we will actively solicit feedback on all three. We have created a communications hub for sharing of study group experiences and advice which is accessible by request to curriculum@uujme.org.

Email curriculum@uujme.org with any questions and constructive feedback. Leaders of study groups around the country are happy to be paired with potential leaders of other groups to provide advice. You do not have to be an expert on the issues to lead a group. It is a guide rich with many resources that you can omit or add to as you see appropriate.

The Lemon Tree: An Arab, A Jew, and the Heart of the Middle East is a recommended book to read before starting the first session.
